KISHTWAR, Sept 14: After 7 days of investigation, National Investigation Agency (NIA) today arrested two teenagers Sharik Khawar Butt (15) and Abid Hussain Bhawani in connection with terror email sent from Global Internet Cafe Kishtwar claiming responsibility of Delhi High Court blast in which 13 people were killed.
Both Sharik and Abid are students of 11th class studied at Islamia Fareediya Higher Secondary School Kishtwar. They were picked up by investigating agencies on September 10, 2011. After remaining in custody of investigating agencies for four days, Kishtwar police party led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy.SP) Abrar Chowdhery produced both the accused at the official residence of judge in Kishtwar late last night to give media a slip.
Judge sent both the minors to 10-day police remand and NIA may apply for their transit remand later for possibly conducting lie detection and polygraph test of both the accused to ascertain facts. Police detained both the accused under FIR No: 238 U/S 153 A, 120 B, 13 Unlawful Act and 66 Information Technology registered at police station Kishtwar on the instance of NIA.
According to the sources, the group of five to seven adults, all aged between 25 to 30 years, are believed to be involved in planning and executing the blast while the minors were used for sending the HUJI e-mail. All reportedly arrived in New Delhi on September 6 and carried out the attacks on September 7. There are reports that most of members who executed the blast are hiding in different cities of India.
According to sources, material used in the blast was highly sophisticated and complex, which is almost impossible for a local gang to assemble and operate. However, they added that the nature of the material used was such that the explosive could not have been made in Kishtwar and then sent to Delhi. Sources say that bomb may have been sourced and assembled in the capital itself.
Sources also said that NIA cyber forensic experts have established that the time of the computer used to send the e-mail on behalf of Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami (HuJI) was tampered with to mislead investigators. Investigating agencies have also scrutinized the record of Islamia Fareediya Higher Secondary School, where both Sharik and Abid were presently getting education.
Meanwhile the family members continue to pledge innocence of both Sharik and Abid. Attaullah Bhawani while talking to Early Times said that he had neither been informed by the police nor by the District Administration about the arrest of his son. He said that he has firm belief that his son is innocent as well as his friend.
He said that he had full faith in democratic system of India and appealed the Union Home Minister for free and fair trial. He hoped that as per his belief both Sharik and Abid are innocent and will soon be released. Similar views were expressed by the family members of Sharik Khawar Butt. He said that he is watching the news in media since very first day, which are based on speculation rather than based on reality.
FIR reveals that as per DIG NIA letter No: NIA-2011/1 dated 7-9-2011 associated with the investigation of case crime No; 49/2011 P/S special cell Delhi police related to bomb blast on 7-9-2011, IP address of the email claiming the responsibility of Delhi High Court Blast sent from [email protected] has been traced to Kishtwar sent from land line number 01995261337 registered on the name of Syed Manzoor Hussain son of Syed Fazal Hussain resident of Astanbhala Kishtwar.
FIR further stated that keeping in view of the senility of the case, the inquiry of the case was handed over to Dy.SP Headquarter Kishtwar. It is worthwhile to mention that officials of NIA are still camping in Kishtwar since last 7 days. According to the local police sources, investigation is still inconclusive.
