| Tell people about achievements of KVI! | | National award for what? | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 14: Despite having the distinction of being the most corrupt state in India; Jammu Kashmir continues to bag awards at the national level. Last year it won an award in excellence in health care and this year the National award for Khadi and Village Industries (KVI) has gone to Jammu Kashmir.
The people of Jammu Kashmir came to know about the `good news' through a paid advertisement in various local dailies. The advertisement shows photo of CEO receiving the award from the president of India. The advertisement also carries the photo of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah besides the photos of the concerned Minister and his MoS.
The advertisement reads: "Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise- Government of India- National Award 2011- Conferred for excellence in the field of Khadi and Village Industries-to Khadi and Village Industries Board-Best KVI Board, Non NE Zone (National)."
The advertisement is silent about the achievements of the Board. There is no mention of why the award has been given. Normally when the government issues such advertisements, it makes a detailed mention of the achievement. Since nothing has been said, it is quite safe to presume that the award is politically motivated.
There is nothing in the outlets of the Board that the state can boast of having manufactured. Of course there are some rugs from South Kashmir-Namdas and Gabbas (colorful woolen rugs manufactured mainly in Anantnag district of Kashmir Valley). But most of them are of sub-standard quality and people prefer to buy such items directly from the manufacturers for a variety of reasons ranging from cost to quality.
The state's Khadi and Village Industry have done nothing to put the state on the industrial (khadi and Village) map of the country.
