Soz dismisses Omar's views on armed insurgency | 'J&K militancy was sponsored…..not acceptable' Party MLAs to decide on Guru Resolution as per Cong perception | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 14: In what can be seen as totally dismissing and negating the views expressed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at NIC meeting two days back, J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Saif-u-Din Soz today said that militancy in Jammu and Kashmir was not an armed struggle instead a sponsored insurgency and it is not acceptable to the people. Prof Soz also said that Congress legislators would decided on Afzal Guru resolution in accordance with the perception of the party . Addressing media persons here today, Prof Soz, who is also chairman of the Coordination Committee of ruling allies said he doesn't agree with what Omar looks at the issue of armed insurgencies. " Armed militancy in J&K was sponsored……. those who want to dictate terms through arms are not acceptable……. for it challenges the system…", the veteran Congress leader observed adding that there is certainly difference between militancy and armed struggle. "Militants like Naxalites have certain ideologies…. we can hold dialogue with them but armed militancy in Kashmir is totally different", he remarked. Pertinently, at NIC meet Omar had said that there are political reasons for armed insurgencies and it need political space to address them. Responding to a question on resolution of MLA Abdul Rashid on seeking clemency for Afzal Guru , the senior leader of the Congress said there is time for the party to take the decision as to how its legislators would respond to it once it gets debated on the floor of the House. " Our legislators will face it as per the perception of the party……. Congress is a vibrant party and it would take its stand accordingly on this issue", he said, apparently in a bid to avoid taking straight questions over the issue albeit adding in same breath the matter is as yet pending with the Speaker of the Assembly. Prof Soz, while replying to one more query indicated Congress would like to go it alone in forthcoming Municipal elections in the state but at the same time even if it were to contest the polls along with its alliance partner, it would be more like contesting "friendly matches…..". However, it is yet to be decided whether to go for alliance with NC or not, he added. Commenting on BJP leader LK Advani's Rath Yatra the veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister while castigating the move said it would achieve no purpose. " It would break the nation…….India is a mature democracy and people know it well that Yatra's have always divided the country………", Prof Soz observed. |
