EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sep 15: The State has witnessed decadal population growth rate of 23.71 per cent with total population recorded at over 1.2 crore, Census Director Farooq Ahmad Factoo said. ''Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed decadal population growth rate of 23.71 per cent with total population recorded at 1,25,48,926 - 91,34,820 in rural and 34,14,106 in urban areas,'' Factoo said releasing paper-II on census-2011 here. He said the decadal population growth rate in rural areas has been recorded at 19.77 per cent and in urban areas at 35.66 per cent. The child sex ratio in the State has been recorded at 859 per 1000 males, 860 in rural and 854 in urban areas, he said. He said the literacy rate has reached an all time high 68.74 per cent in the state with rural areas recording 64.97 per cent and urban 78.19 per cent. ''Jammu is the most inhabited district in the State with a population of 15,26,406 followed by Srinagar district with a population of 12,50,173 and Anantnag with a population of 10,69,749 souls,'' he said. He said Kargil and Leh are the least inhabited districts with a population of 1,43,388 and 1,47,104 souls respectively.
