J&K Ex- Services League organizes one day convention

Kathua , Sept 15: J&K Ex- Services League has organized a one day convention and also submitted memorandum through DC kathua Zahidha Khan in connection their long pending demands to the state coalition government. On the occasion the DC Kathua was the chief guest and state president JKESL Govrdan Singh was the guest of honour.
While addressing the massive gathering of Ex-service men the district president of the JKESL Capt. Sagra Singh urged the state government to take serious steps towards genuine demands which are as Acquisition of land for housing colonies for war widows and soldiers, exemption of VAT on canteen stores in J&K, 15% reservation in Govt. jobs, revival of Sainik Vanaspati Cooperative, one rank one pension, double pension, full family pension widows, no increase of pensions to the reservists and widows, mobile CSD canteen, transport to MH Pathankot, shifting of Zilla Sainik Welfare Office Kathua and gun license for NSP weapons. State president of the League Govrdan singh said that’s the principals of one rank one pensions is followed all over the world except in India, it is comprehensions as to why ex-servicemen are being treated as the sons of lesser GOD, he said before independence on the retirements the army men were paid at 80% of the last pay drawn.
He further said Govt had approved establishment of housing colonies for the war widows, soldiers and ex-servicemen in the year 1999 with the direction to the JDA for acquiring land for the colonies. Inspite of our best efforts land acquisition is still lingering for the last 12 years and not single Marla of land has been acquired till date. Moreover he also stressed on the exemption of VAT on canteen stores in the state, soldiers have been agitating since the VAT was levied on the canteen stores in 2002 while many state including Pb, HP, exempted the VAT , J&K is levying 13.5%. He said that our crusade will continue till we get our demands are solved in a peaceful and dignified manner. At last the DC Kathua Zahidha Khan assured the JKESL that their genuine demands would be taken with the state government immediately.
