| State art awards announced Naqashbandi, Kukkal among winners | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar , Sept 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Thursday announced the prestigious annual state art exhibition awards 2011. Making the announcement secretary Cultural Academy, Zafar Iqbal Manhas said that the awards, which will be presented shortly, had been instituted for promotion of better art works. Awarded annually for excellence in the field of art the main award – presented for painting and sculpting - carries a cash prize of Rs 51, 000/-, citation and shawl. In the artist category, the first prize has been bagged by Mohammed Aslam Naqashbandhi for painting while Surjeet Singh Kukkal has won the second prize for sculpting. Both will get Rs 51,000 each. In the student category, Mounis Shah has won a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- for painting while Ashish Raina will get award of equal sum for wood cut print. Amit Singh Salathia, Mohammed Akram Khan, Pritima Singh, Gayoor Hassan and Dheeraj Nanda have been awarded the certificate of merit in the artist category and would receive a cash prize of Rs 1000 each. In the certificate of merit student category Syed Shuhab Naqshbandi, Mubashar Niyaz, Sanna Abdullah and Sunita Kumari will be given a cash prize of Rs 1000 each.
