JAMMU, Sept 15: Semifinals position has been cleared in veteran singles event with the entry of Ashish, Anil, Ramesh Sharma and Balbir Jamwal in the last four stages of the ongoing State Badminton Championship at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here today.
Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Ashish beat Ravinder 2-1 (21-19, 18-21, 21-10 while Anil outplayed Narinder in straight sets 21-07, 21-14. In other quarterfinals, Ramesh trounced Vivek 21-08, 21-15 and Balbir defeated Sunil 21-12, 21-06.
Meanwhile, in under-13 girls group, Naman shall take on Shivali in the final. In the semi-finals, played today, Naman beat Aditi in easy straight sets of 21-05, 21-08 while Shivali outplayed Piyushi 21-13, 22-20.
Naman has also made it to the final of under-10 girls’ category after she defeated Manorma 21-05, 21-06. Now, she shall face Bhawani for the title clash. Earlier, Bhawani defeated Mridula 21-07, 21-05 to reach the final.
The second day of the championship was affected by the unscheduled power cuts. The organizing committee could not complete the day’s schedule.
