On thinning security to state president, BJP dashes off letter to CM
Copies sent to national president, home minister

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 15: By dashing off a letter to chief minister Omar Abdullah, the frustrated BJP seems to have taken the first step towards restoring its "self-respect and honour" that, according to the party, got eroded after the government thinned security cover of its state president.
The copies of the letter, signed by state president Shamsher Singh Manhas, were also sent to party's national president Nitin Gadkari and home minister P Chidambram at their New Delhi addresses.
It, however, seems to be a case of an "embarrased cat scratching the pole". Manhas chose to send the letter to CM and its copies to Gadkari and Chidambaram after the repeated party pleas to restore him the withdrawn guards/PSOs did not bear any fruit.
The government has withdrawn Manhas's two out of three residential guards and one out of three PSOs. The party feels that this government action has no rationale.
In a press conference on Tuesday last, BJP stated that the issue had become the "matter of self-respect and honour for the party".
Manhas's letter reads as:
"This is to bring to your notice that the number of security guards deployed at my residence as well as PSOs deputed with me has been suddenly curtailed without assigning any valid reason. You will appreciate that both from the point of view of threat perception as state head of BJP which has constantly taken up cudgels against anti-national and separatist forces and also from the point of view of prevailing circumstances in the state, this is an issue deserving your immediate intervention.
Further, it hardly needs reiteration that in the process of discharging my duties and obligations as state president of BJP, I am expected to tour far-flung, remote and militancy infested areas of the state, which calls for extra security concerns. I also take this opportunity to remind you that from time to time communications have been sent from my office to the state administration, stressing the importance and need to provide adequate and equivalent security cover to the party office bearers who are constantly exposed to the risk of life and property. Looking forward to an early response from your office".
