| Pesciculture promises huge job potential in the State: Zargar | | Visits Bahu Fort under ground Aquarium Research Centre | |
Jammu, Dec 5 With latest state of art and research facilities an under ground aquarium cum awareness research centre is coming up at Bahu Fort Jammu. The Aquarium spread over 30 kanals of land costing Rs.10.5 crore would be completed in March next. This was stated by the Minister for Agriculture, Co-operatives and Fisheries Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar during his visit to the aquarium today to take stock of the pace of work on this prestigious project. The Minister inspected various section of the aquarium and appreciated the use of indigenous technology in the construction of the aquarium and the acqua caves. Mr. Zargar said that the upcoming aquarium is first of its kind in the country having all modern facilities including Multimedia Hall, Museum, Oceanarium, Aquarium Caves, Breeding Farms and Fish Mouth to conduct research in the field of Pesciculture and make it an attractive tourist destination. He said that the aquarium is being provided with air conditioning facility to maintain the proper environment for the various fish species and facilitate the visitors. Mr. Zargar said that so far breeding of more than hundred fish species has successfully being conducted by the breeding farms of the aquarium and is presently engaged with breeding of 30 new species including 10 local species also. He said that the breeds produced in the farm are being provided to the fishponds of the State. He said that the aquarium has 24 acqua caves stocked with ornamental, marring and even carnivorous fish which captivate the onlookers. The Museum of the aquarium is stocked with 350 specie men depicting various kinds of fish made available for the research scholars in the field of pesciculture, the Minister said. While interacting with the staff of the aquarium Mr. Zargar said that with the given environment, climate and water resources in our State pesciculture promises huge job potential for the youth and added that for the purpose efforts are on to harness it fully. He said that under pesiculture development programme people involved with fish farming are being provided various incentives for setting up fish ponds including availability of breeds, modern technical know how and subsidy. Director fisheries Mr. T. Angchock, Chief Projector Officer and Project Officer of the aquarium Mr. K.S. Charak and Masood Hussain present on the occasion apprised the Minister about the progress achieved so far in the execution of the project and informed him about the aims and objectives of the project for pesciculture development in the State. The Minister appreciated the dedication of the officers and the staff of the aquarium and asked them to maintain the uniqueness of the centre and make it a model centre of learning. |
