Declamation contest in Dogri language held

Jammu, Sept 16: Dogri Sanstha, Jammu, World Wide Fund, Jammu & Kashmir and Dogri Sahitya Sabha, Marh jointly organized a declamation contest in Dogri Language among the students of five local schools.
The venue of the competition was Shastri Shiksha Kendra Hr. Sec. School, Marh whereas the other schools from where the participants competed in this event include Govt. Hr. Sec. School, Marh, Govt. Girls High School, Marh Bagh, Govt. High School, Gajansoo and Govt. Girls High School, Sangrampur.
Two topics on which students spoke were “Forests in the Cities” and “Livelihood from Forests.” In addition to 17 students, all of whom spoke in Dogri, there were about 200 students among the audience who enthusiastically cheered the speakers.
About 15 prominent Dogri writers and office bearers of Dogri Sanstha were present in the function which includes Gianeshwar Sharma, Virender Kesar, Chattepal, Narinder Bhasin, Shiv Mehta, Madan Padha, K.K. Shakir and Dheeraj Kesar. The function was presided over by Lalit Magotra of Dogri Sanstha where V.P. Sharma, former chairman of WWF, J&K and retired director, Geological Survey of India was the chief guest. C.M. Seth, Chairman, WWF & Baldev Chand, Scientific Officer, WWF were also present on the occasion.
All the students who participated in the contest were given a set of Dogri books by Dogri Sanstha.
Certificates of participation to all participants and mementoes to the winners of the contest were given on behalf of WWF.
Dogri Sanstha also gave cash awards to the participants who secured first three positions in the contest.
A set of Dogri books to each of the participating schools was also presented by Dogri Sanstha for their libraries. Kum. Sakshi Sharma and Kum. Sapna Sharma secured 1st position whereas Arjun Kumar and Karuna Sharma secured 2nd and 3rd position.
V.P. Sharma in his address laid stress on the importance of forests and need to preserve the natural environment.
Lalit Magotra during his presidential address congratulated all the students who participated in the competition especially those who secured first three positions. He also appreciated the enthusiasm expressed by the participating schools and spectator students.
