Pranjay, Naman, Devyani bag titles in State Badminton

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 16: While young shutter from Udhampur, Pranjay surprised his opponent by taking away the under-10 boys singles title, Naman made it a triple title winning finals in three different weight groups in the ongoing 38th State Open Badminton Championship
at MA Stadium, here today.
To emerge champion, first timer in the state level competition, Pranjay defeated Montek in straight sets 21-09, 21-15 in under-10 final. On the other hand, Naman excelled in under-10 and under-13 age categories. In under-10 girls’ singles final, Naman outplayed Bhavins 21-01, 21-01 in a one-sided contest and later bagged under-13 singles title beating Shivali 21-09, 23-21.
Pairing with Pehushi, Naman also won under-13 girls doubles title trouncing the duo of Aditi and Ritika 21-04, 21-13.
In the meantime, in veteran singles final, Ramesh Sharma shall take on Anil Gurkha. Earlier, in the semifinals, played today, Ramesh defeated Balbir Jamwal 21-08, 21-11 and Anil outplayed Ashish Sharma 21-09, 21-19.
Ramesh pairing with Ashish has also qualified for the veteran doubles final after beating Som Raj and Balbir Jamwal 21-11, 21-18 in the semifinals. Now, Ramesh and Ashish shall take on Pradeep and Narinder Khajuria. To reach final, Pardeep and Narinder downed Raju and Verma 21-16, 21-17.
Meanwhile, the finals of other senior groups shall take place tomorrow, followed by the valedictory function tomorrow. The men’s singles and women’s doubles finals shall start at 4.30 pm.

Under-17 girls singles: Devyani bt Akanksha Sharma 21-13, 21-111; Gagandeep bt Mitakshars 21-09, 21-15; Tanjula bt Subhagani 30-28, 21-12,
Under-17 boys singles: Sourav bt Dinesh 21-09, 16-21, 21-12; Pawan bt Sarvagya 21-18, 20-22, 21-18; Arjun Balgotra bt Arjun 21-13, 21-15.
