Water level in Jehlum still above danger mark, weather improves | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sep 17 : The water level in river Jehlum and its tributaries was still above danger mark though the weather has improved since last evening. Dozens of villages were inundated in south Kashmir district of Pulwama and north Kashmir district of Kupwara, causing damage to houses and standing crops.
However, there was no report of any loss of life in the floods.
An official in the Police Control Room (PCR) told this afternoon that water level in river Jehlum was still above danger mark.
He said it was about half a feet above danger mark at Ram Munshi Bagh near here today.
However, it was two feet below danger mark at Sangam in south Kashmir district of Pulwama.
It is receding at Sangam but increasing at Ram Munshi Bagh, he said, adding the Irrigation and Flood Control (IFC), Kashmir, has already sounded a flood alert last evening.
The Chief Engineer IFC has directed all Zonal Flood Committees to report for duty and establish their control rooms in their respective areas of operation to meet any flood challenge.
However, with the improvement in weather the situation is fast returning to normal and public has been asked not to panic.
The water level in Rambagh flood channel and Doodganga nallah has increased since this morning. However, there was no immediate threat of flood in the localities on the bank of flood channel and nallah.
Meanwhile, the weather has improved and there was no rains since last evening.
