Early Times report
JAMMU, Sept 17: Students of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGBSU) Rajouri today lodged strong protest against alleged misconduct of authorities at the helm of administrative and academic affairs.
Demanding the in-depth probe into alleged malpractices and corruption going inside the institution, the protesting students warned of dire consequences if their demands were not met. Sources said that large number of students of Engineering and polytechnic colleges of the University staged a protest demonstration against the authorities accusing them of charging excess semester fee from the students.
They said that information broacher published by university mentions Rs 20,000 per semester fee for students of engineering and polytechnic colleges, but the authorities have been charging Rs 25000 from each student for each semester. Protesting students said that extra amount being charged by the authorities does not exist in any record of the university and has not even been mentioned in the information broacher of university.
Warning university authorities of dire consequences, protesting students demanded an in-depth probe. He said that the university officials are knee deep corruption and the silence of the government shows that people at the helm of affairs get their share from the university. “I appeal to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that being a pro Chancellor of the university, he must probe into the amount of money charged from the students in the last five years for different purposes,” said one Shahid.
He added that authorities charge every year huge amount from them for organizing placement camps of various multinational companies, but only once a camp was organized by the university authorities. “Now the university authorities tell us that go and search jobs in the news paper advertisements where the companies have given their requirements,” added the students.
