Police-public meet on road safety held

UDHAMPUR, Sep 17:District Police Udhampur toady organised a road safety awareness meet in Police Station Udhampur to create road safety consciousness among the general public especially with regard to overloading.
The camp was organized by SSP Udhampur Shakeel Ahmed Beig in the light of various road accidents claming precious lives in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, SSP said that Udhampur Police is very much concerned about the safety of the public and road safety is a collective effort of the district administration and people. He added that administration must leave no stone unturned in ensuring proper condition of the roads and enforcing strict traffic rules, but responsible driving by the drivers and right attitude of the people with respect to traffic rules is the first step to the road safety on the roads.
Giving details about the drive against offenders he said in a special drive against overloading and over-speeding, police have challaned 972 passenger vehicles and realised fine to the tune of Rs 2.5 lakh recently to deal the menace of overloading with iron hands, but menace of overloading cannot be put to an end without cooperation of general public. Commuters are advised not to travel in overloaded vehicle and parents should also not allow their school going children to travel in an overloaded vehicle. He added that drivers must also ensure that the vehicle they drive is in good working condition and they possess valid driving licences and do not indulge in overloading, over-speeding and drinking while driving.
Jagjit Kumar, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range who was also present in the meeting apprised the participants with the importance of adhering with the traffic rules, regulations and safety norms and emphasised upon general public to strictly abide by the traffic norms to avoid fatal road accidents.
