| Agri Deptt organizes training prog on Mushroom Cultivation | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sep 17:
A practical training cum demonstration programme was organized by Mushroom Development Section of Department of Agriculture at Demonstration cum Training Centre Talab Tillo, Jammu.
Director Agriculture, Jammu, Ajay Khajuria inaugurated the training programme which was participated by more than 150 mushroom growers from Akhnoor, Khour, Bishnah, RS Pura, Marh and Dansal.
The Director while interacting with mushroom growers said that the Department of Agriculture is making all out efforts to help the farmers to increase their income by providing requisite technological and material inputs for diversification and adoption of improved agriculture practices. He said that the cultivation of Mushroom has emerged as important agro-based industry in Jammu division. Three types of Mushroom are being cultivated in this division i.e. Milky mushroom (July-Sep) white button mushroom (Sep-March) and Dhingri (Oct-Dec and Jan-March). Milky mushroom has been the latest introduction in the mushroom production system rather fills the gap period of Mushroom Cultivation and fits in the sequence of growing mushroom around the year which gives more than 100% profit in a short period of time.
Khajuria said that the cultivation of button and dhingri mushroom cultivation has been very proficiently adopted by the farmers of this division as a result of which there has been ever growing demand of spawn of these two strains. During 2009-10, the Department of Agriculture and private sector had supplied 67277 spawn bottles for establishment of 138000 trays of button mushroom and 8748 bottles for establishment of 17414 blocks of Dhingri. The production obtained was 4700 qtls of Button Mushroom and 180 qtls of Dhingri. During the year 2010-11, the department and private sector had supplied 77272 bottles for establishment of 154554 trays of button mushroom and 11665 spawn bottles for establishment of 23074 blocks of Dhingri. The production obtained was 5410 qtls of Button Mushroom and 207 qtls of Dhingri.
