‘386637 patients treated, 11015 surgeries conducted in GMCH during 2010-11’

JAMMU, Sep 17:As many as 11,015 major and minor surgeries were conducted in the Government Medical College and hospital Jammu during last year, while 386637 patients were treated in the Out Door Department during the same period in the premier hospital of the region.
The Hospital recorded admission of 38287 patients during this period, while 14640 cases including 14086 RTA routine cases and 554 disaster cases were treated since January 2010 till September 2011. The hospital, among other diagnostic examinations, conducted about 91571 X-rays, 55000 ultra sounds and 15877 C.T Scans and 3642 MRIs were conducted till April this year.
The information was given by Principal Government Medical College, Dr. Rajinder Singh at a press conference here this afternoon.
Briefing the media persons, Dr. Rajinder Singh informed that Government Medical College and associated hospitals have made tremendous achievements by rendering specialized treatment to the patients. He said that Government Medical College has extra burden of patients coming from neighboring states as well and the department is taking some serious steps to cope up with the extra burden. He said that critically injured patients in the disasters and accidents admitted in the hospital are being given treatment on priority.
Dr. Singh informed that the newly constructed super specialty hospital in the city would soon be made operational to cope up with extra burden and a separate neuro department would be available in the hospital to provide specialized treatment to the patients suffering from neuro and other ailments. Apart from this neuro surgeries would also be done in this super specialty hospital so that the people of the state could get this treatment in the state.
The GMC principal said that the hospital management was taking every effort to cope with the problems faced to it. He said the main problem of shortage of medical staff is being met by taking some innovative measures. He however hoped that the vacant posts advertised for recruitment would be soon filled. He also listed the measures taken for the convenience of patients and their attendants. The Principal also gave details about the upgradation of infrastructure at GMCH and its associated hospitals.
