Heavy rains damaged property in Banihal | People demand compensation, blocked NHW | | EARLY TIMES REPORT BANIHAL, Sep 17:Traffic remained suspended for two hours when hundreds of people today staged a demonstration against the state government over the damage of property in the Banihal tehsil of district Ramban. The impact of the rain created havoc among the people in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district and particularly who are residing near the banks of river Bichlari. The people residing near the river tributaries are still under threat of heavy rains. Several people protested today and demanded immediate relief to the affected families whose hutments have collapsed and whose live stock was washed away due to floods. Due to the rains railway bridge no 146 at Darshipora was also damaged, A local Sarpanch Sheikh Kesar demanded that concerned authorities should constitute teams of concerned department to assess the losses and overall impact of damage to the properties due to rains and floods so that adequate relief is provided to the families. Kesar appealed the authorities to ensure opening of roads which have been damaged and closed for vehicle traffic in Neel, Khari as early as possible and take measures in view of the forecast made by the metrological department of India to avoid further damage to the people.
