Re-entry of three suspended MLAs into BJP fold meets rough weather Jaitley raises legal objections | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 17: The re-entry of three suspended BJP MLAs into Party has met rough weather with opposition leader in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitely raising some legal objections to the proposal. According to high placed Party sources Jaitely has scuttled the move of the party which had decided to grant re-entry to three suspended MLAs out of seven into Party fold before the commencement of State Assembly Autumn session on September 26. The BJP leadership at New Delhi including the newly appointed prabharis Mukhi and Dr Jain have also favoured the re-entry of suspended MLAs into the Party fold. The senior leadership in Union Capital was had also favoured the idea and given its nod to re-entry of three out of seven suspended MLAs into the Party fold so that the Party can make its presence felt in State legislative Assembly where the strength of its MLAs was reduced from 11 to four. However some leaders in the state were also opposed to the move and they had approached the high Command against the decision. Opposing the re-entry of the seven legislators sources said senior party leaders in the state intimated the High Command that the decision will prove counter productive. Supporting them Jaitley sources said has told party leadership that by allowing the re-entry of three or four MLAs into party will legally weaken the case as the MLAs who had gone to court will say that who were the other four Legislators who had cross voted. Sources said Jaitely had informed the national leadership of the Party that only one option open for re-entry to these MLAs into Party is that they should seek a written apology from High Command and accept that they had participated in cross voting during April 14 elections of MLCs. However this condition is not acceptable to the suspended MLAs and by seeking apology means admission by them that they have participated in cross voting. This sources said will weaken the case of these MLAs in public. Sources said the BJP has only one option available and in case it wants to allow the re-entry of suspended MLAs it has to take all of them. Such a decision will not weaken the court case also, sources added. However some state and national leaders are opposed to re-entry of two MLAs, sources said, adding their opposition is causing hurdles in the move putting a question mark to re-entry of MLAs. |
