Early Times Report
srinagar, Sept 17: When Omar Abdullah assumed office as Chief Minister of the state, he said the administration was corrupt to the hilt. However, yesterday when he reached an agreement with the government employees, he said the employees were the hub in public service delivery mechanism. "Cordial and close relations between the two are imperative to implement the development agenda and fulfil social promises", he said.
Asking the employees to keep their duties and responsibilities equally flagged as those of their demands, Omar Abdullah said that the big decision of the Government to provide first installment of arrears to the tune of over Rs. 820 crores to its employees should galvanize their work culture, transparency and commitment to perform better and improve delivery. Addressing the felicitation function organized by the Civil Secretariat Non-Gazetted Employees Union here to express their gratitude to the Chief Minister for walking an extra mile to accommodate the employees' demands and helping an agreement between the Government and the representatives of the various Employees Union, the Chief Minister said that the credit of finalizing mutually agreed roadmap for addressing and accommodating employees demands goes to all. After finalizing the deal with the employees, Omar said" I shall be pleased when general public raise good slogans in favour of the government." Well, there seems no possibility of fulfillment of this dream in the near future.
Omar knows the people are angry and he also knows what they have been demanding since last summer. They want justice and till justice is not done, the slogans in favour of the government may not be raised.
Last year the people of Bijbehara torched Chief Minister's effigy. A police officer threw a show at him on Independence Day. How can he expect bouquets from the aggrieved people?
The employee leaders praised Omar Abdullah for `walking an extra mile' to reach the historic agreement with the striking employees. Describing Omar Abdullah the role model for younger generation, they promised of rendering duty with responsibility making the development agenda of the Government a success. This evoked a thundering applause but people know the commitment shall never be met!
