NC- Cong 'balance' set to swing......? | Resolution on Guru through for debate | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 17: Finally, a nod has come for the controversial resolution moved by MLA Langate Abdul Rashid seeking amnesty for Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru for debate in the J&K Assembly which has been scheduled on September 28, two days after the session begins. The resolution was listed today after it was selected in the draw of lots of the admitted resolutions for ensuing session . Resolution on Guru was picked up in the second round in the random balloting held in presence of MLAs whose resolutions were admitted earlier. Upon this mandatory exercise the big question arises how the two ruling allies NC and Congress would respond to voting after the debate and discussion in the House. Would it be playing the 'political shots' once again for political survival of the party by NC …….or some other moves in 'tandem' with ally Congress on the lines of 'killing two birds with one stone….? The questions will do the rounds and political corridors will once again be full of speculations as to what strategy the NC and Congress is going to adopt on September 28. While some leaders in the NC including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has already indicated it was not in favour of Guru's execution contending it would shatter the fragile peace of Kashmir again. As for the mood of masses in Kashmir including that of separatist camp, people are much against hanging of Afzal Guru for apparent emotive reasons. In that context one gets a sense that ruling NC which has its strength and base in Kashmir cannot afford to vote against the resolution. For a lot depends among other things on their own political survival. However, on the other hand, it also means tilting of some 'balance' in the ties with its ally Congress as the latter cannot go straight in favour of amnesty when it comes to voting nor can it afford to say brazen 'no,' in terms of participation in debate or discussion. The selection of the resolution today might have brought cheers and happiness for the mover and some relief to opposition PDP , knowing well it would put their rival in dilemma, it has certainly brought worries to both the ruling allies. The response of BJP and Panthers Party on this is only too much known to be mentioned and both are actually waiting for Congress response which, both these parties would rake up to the hilt according to the situation that emerges. |
