Deployment of troops on LOC may be rearranged | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sep 18 : Following Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's disclosure that camps for militants were being reactivated across the LOC Army authorities in Jammu and Kashmir were being told to reshape the deployment of troops on the entire border. Official sources said that measures had been initiated to plug unconventional infiltration routes after the intelligence agency inputs have revealed that attempts were being made by not only non-Government agencies across the border but also the Pakistani Army to push groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that infiltration bids were to be increased during the ensuing three months so that between 700 and 900 militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, were able to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir before the border routes became impassable owing to snow. Reports said that more than 800 militants have been brought on the launching pads across Poonch, Rajouri, Samba, Kupwara, Keran, Tangdhar, Karnah for the purpose of pushing them into Jammu and Kashmir. It is in this context that the Prime Minister has called for strengthening the security apparatus. Experts believe that whatever improvement in the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessed may register further improvement if not a single militant was allowed to enter into Jammu and Kashmir. According to these sources, troops have been also asked to intensify patrolling on the LAC in Ladakh sector following reports of added Chinese military buildup across the border. Though Government circles in Jammu and Kashmir do not foresee any mischief on the part of the Chinese troops, the Indian troops do not favour any complacency.(kip)
