| PDP committed for people’s empowerment: Mehbooba | | Slams NC led coalition Govt for its failure to deliver | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
KISHTWAR, Sep 18:In order to reach within the masses to redress the grievances of common people and assess their problems, Peoples’ Democratic Party in its ongoing leg of Chenab valley tour organized a massive rally at historic Chowgan ground Kishtwar in which more than seven thousand people from all strata of life participated including large number of women.
While addressing the gathering, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said that it is unfortunate that the National Conference Government never allowed to prevail the real democracy to take roots in the state fearing threat to their power politics, as a result of which the development could not took place in Jammu and Kashmir in real sense particularly in rural areas . She further said that the J&K State stands 2nd in contribution of power (electricity) to the central pool of the country, but it is unfortunate that the people of J&K are still reeling under power crises. She said that as per rough estimate more than 50 thousands crores could be the income generated yearly in the field of generation of power alone from the water sources of the state. She said that this amount of money would bring a sea change in the development of the state, and it would be the matter of right for the erstwhile District Doda which is the home of this huge water resource to get the maximum benefit from this income. “History stands testimony that it was the National Conference leadership who first surrendered the rivers to the centre and later handed over all the power projects of the state to the Centre government thus causing huge losses to the state exchequer.” Mehbooba Mufti said.
“I too can enjoy the power at centre like what NDA Government portrayed Omar Abdullah as Muslim Minister during his tenure, but me and my father have some ambitions as far as serving for the poor people of the state for which she and Mufti Mohammad Syed had decided to form new party instead of carry on with Congress.” said Mehbooba Mufti.
She said that the PDP had assured the people that it will take up the matter of pending power projects, Bursar, Pakal-Dool, Kerru, Karthie and Rattle with the Centre Government for their clearance so that the work is started at an earliest and ensure that the local population get the maximum employment in these projects .
Lashing out at ruling National Conference, Mehbooba said that the NC never ever fulfilled its commitments to the people of the state. “The party which has been fooling people for decades in the name of autonomy have made a joke out of the present Panchayat elections, earlier under Farooq Abdullah’s regime the Panchayat elections held in 2001 had also born no fruit for the people as there was no empowerment of those panchayats at that time” Mehbooba further said . She said today when more than 80% people participated in the panchayat elections hoping that in absence of good governance, the panchayats will be able to fill in the vacuum. But unfortunately even after more than 3 months have passed, the state Government has yet to notify the powers of the Panchayats.
Mufti told the gathering that PDP is committed for the total empowerment of the Panchayats as is seen in other parts of the country , the three tier system where the people work through Gram Sabha , Block Chairman, and District Chairman , has to come up for the overall empowerment and development of the state as a whole .
The party president assured the people of Paddar and Nagseni that their demand of college will be taken up with the Government and also assured the people of Kishtwar for construction of Nehar Naiga.
On the occasion several persons including, Shadi Lal Parihar, Munshi Ram, Fehmeeda Begum, Beena Devi and others joined PDP.
