Police manipulates case to save a Cop
12/5/2006 11:44:39 PM

Jammu, Dec 05
Family members of an accident victim have accused police of changing the evidences to save a cop responsible for crushing the youth who died in Medical College Jammu last night.
Sources informed that one Jadev Singh son of Sardar Sadu Singh hailing from Poonch and presently putting up at Kanji House upper Bazar Gummet was crushed by a over speedy car being driven by a Special Police official (SPO) identified as Deepak Kumar. Sources said that soon after the accident the injured youth was shifted to Government Medical College Jammu where he battled between life and death for two days and finally breathed his last during the intervening night of December 4 and 5.
Sources said that the identity card bearing number 455 issued by Rajouri Police of said SPO was taken by some of the locals who assembled at the site of accident and also handed him over to police. The SPO was reportedly released by police.
Sources said that in order to save the cop Police immediately removed the car from the spot of accident and the road was washed to wipe out the blood stains. However, the family members alleged that police has shown a car of another model bearing number JK02T 7329 in place of the actual car bearing No JK02M-8001. They said that the car was changed because the car driven by SPO was a seized vehicle.
“Police is trying to save the SPO who was unauthorizedly allowed by his superiors to drive a seized car” alleged victim’s uncle. He said that the accused was released by the police despite knowing that the diseased was in critical condition and was struggling between life and death in ICU section Of GMC Jammu.
“Even the doctors did not bother to operate upon his injuries in time which led to his death”. Gulzar Singh of the brother in law of deceased said adding that the doctors at GMC did not pay any heed to over request and avoided him till he breathed his last.
Meanwhile a deputation of relatives of the deceased met SSP Jammu and lodged a complaint about the whole episode of police’s high handedness and changing of car. SSP Jammu Mukesh Singh assured the family members that a fair investigation would be conducted and police official if found guilty would be taken to task. He however issued on spot directions to the concerned police station and the investigating officer of the case to report him the factual position.
Shopkeepers Association of Lower Gumat Bazar closed their shops after hearing about the demise Jadev Singh who also had a shop in the same area. They have threatened to stop Chief Minister’s motorcade if stern action was not taken against the investigating officer guilty of manipulating the situation in cops favour.
