POLITICISED EDUCATION SET UP HAS PUT AT STAKE THE FUTURE OF STUDENTS | | KHUSHWANT S RANIAL | 9/18/2011 10:22:17 PM |
| The requisite for a civilization’s prosperity, progress and peace is a secure social milieu in which it thrive. Civilized life ,which is a negation of the law of jungle and which is the gift of human advancement ,given by mankind to itself has evolved on the bedrock of a sound educational system And if the education system collapses ,it definitely threatens to bring down with it civilization itself .This is a lesson that history has taught to us for ages together and yet ,alas the only thing we learn from the history is that we have learnt nothing from it. With the advent of modernisation and idea to promote the privatisation and commercialisation of education, the basic purpose of real education has suffered defeat. Education has become a commodity, saleable and attainable at throw away prices without putting in one’s sincerest endeavour. The motive is to earn money through outnumbered deceitful means regardless of fact the true gainer i.e, the student may have ingrained something or not but the owner of the educational institution behind such promotion should remain the real beneficiary in the end. The present educational set up has become hollow, worthless, aimless and confusing. No one knows the end of the tunnel but the mad race to achieve literacy at the cost of the quality is the prime agenda of the government. There has been spurt in opening of new private schools, most of which do not own even basic infrastructure to meet the desired needs of the educational parameters. But the rise is unabated due to involvement of corrupt practices. On the other hand, the apathy of the government run institutions are not far better as well. In fact it has grown over the years from bad to worse. The huge claims of the government in projecting various schemes to woo the children to the schools from the middle rung and under privileged classes to check the drop rates and increase the literacy rate has not paid dividends. Sensing the plight of the government run institutions where there is inadequate infrastructure, there is dismal participation from the upper classes in these governments run schools. Our aim to develop an egalitarian classless and secular society gets first jerk over here when we fail to bring together the children of different economic strata together right from the pre-nursery level. The bonding developed between the children during the initial infancy stage can do more wonders than their standing together at later stage of the life on a common platform .It is because by then the seeds of hate ,ill will ,economic disparities and the class difference have got rooted ,to reorient and shake one’s mindset to change the imbibed values over the years. The concept of rich and poor gets so deeply established that it becomes too hard to erase from the minds of the children. The biggest irony is that due to undue interfernce of our politicians, there has grown spurt hike of deputation and attachments of the teachers to their respective choices ill ignoring the fate of the students. Most of the urbanite government run institutions have been over flooded with the teachers to teach a few students .On the other hand the plight of the ruralised government schools is too deplorable to talk of with meagre strength of the teachers to cover huge number of the students and even competent and dedicated teachers despite their best level fail to deliver the goods to whole of the lot come to schools to seek knowledge. No doubt,There are God – fearing teachers whose conscience is still alive and want to earn money by the sheer dint of hard work and willingly intend to contribute something for the sake of humanity by their sheer involvement ill ignoring the level of hardships but sadly enough, the extra overload of the work apart from the routine teaching affairs have thrown their spirit to the back foot .The net sufferer are none other than the poorer students and their respective families who cannot afford to send their wards to the private run institutions. The hapless students have to comply with the orders and diktats of their teachers under the coercion to do those works which they might be objecting even to their parents at home due to their in bearable strength to face the pressure or lift the load/carry the weight but who bothers and why should one bother as well because this is an age of materialism and in this era, our senses have surrendered to make quick bucks at the cost of morality and social ethos. It has been found that especially the male teachers have made politicians as their God fathers and to run their private institutions and indulge in corrupt practices during the examination time like helping in mass copying ,showing students latitude and giving them an undue favour at the time of conducting the practical’s , earning illicit money through the tuition culture ,helping re -appeared students to get through the examination without facing the examination ,these type of teachers seek the shelter of the politicians to escape of the law of clutuches, who help them in their dire straits .Politicians in turn do need certain touts to work for them as agent in the field to provide them regular feedback to survive and outwit their opponents in the political arena. This new nexus has bred very badly in the recent few years which has resulted in to corrupt and unfair transfer policy. Further it has been noticed that few of the shrewd teachers who manage to gain close rapport and patronage of their political mentors ,have as well started the newer concept of managing the transfers as a result of which the worst sufferer is the common poor individual who do not have an easy access to these ministers . They remain confine to one particular place of posting/deployment for the decades together and neither the administration take notice of their poor plight nor anyone else projects them to provide a new lease of life .Remember, stagnant water smells where as flowing water remains afresh without losing its accent . Same is analogy with the employee who if made to sit for years together on the same chair and place without an iota of change ,he/she starts feeling choked ,bored and the inner urge of creativity dies with the passage of time. His attitude and approach looks like rusted, hope shattered and future looks bleak. Generally such type of teachers has been found in the state of depression and anaemic to innovation. Hence what is desired the most is the non indulgence of the politicians in the transfer policies of teachers so that those entrusted with administration of educational set up could do justice with every one through adoption of fairer and transparent policy. The unholy nexus established between few crooked touts, bureaucrats, senior functionaries and politicians should come to an end. Unless this is done so, there is very less hope of reformation. Special incentives should be given to those teachers who willingly opt to serve in the rural region. A teacher is the back bone of the society, state and nation and if a mason is ill and disturbed, we cannot hope to have a healthy result. So there is an urgent necessity of cohesive deliverance for the positive outcomes.
