NSF welcomes constitution of search committee for new JU VC | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 18: The National Secular Forum (NSF) has expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Governor for not granting extension to the tenure of Jammu University Vice Chancellor Prof Varun Sahni. Besides, urged the four-member inquiry committee, probing the irregularities in JU, to expeditiously submit its report for action. Addressing a press conference, NSF president Vikas Sharma said the constitution of search committee for finding new Vice Chancellor was an indicator of the fact that State Government has put down the proposal of extending the tenure of Varun Sahni. "Sahni was optimistic of getting extension and he had told all his nears and dears that we will get the extension at any cost. But the Government has nullified his claims", he further said. The constitution of search committee at this stage proves that Government has respected the sentiments of students and scholars who had been crying foul since a year. Varun Sahni has caused extensive damage to the University during the last three years and doesn't deserve more time to further deteriorate campus, he added. He urged the four-member inquiry committee to expeditiously complete the probe and submit its report to the State Government, so that action be taken against Sahni if found guilty of misusing the official position. Among those who were present in the press conference included Shafqat Malik, Nitin, Sukdev Singh and Sanjay Thakur.
