My aim is to make J&K an "Island of Peace": Mufti

JAMMU, Sept 18: Reiterating resolve of his party to address aspirations of all regions and sub-regions of the State, former Chief Minister and patron of Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that roadmap prepared by his party was the only viable and most acceptable solution of the Kashmir problem.
Addressing a public meeting at Sarore area, Mufti said that self rule document has potential to solve both external and dimensions of the problem and this document was prepared by accommodating wishes of all the stake holders.
"Power is not my aim. My desire is to make Jammu and Kashmir as Island of Peace with the support and cooperation of the people of this region", Sayeed said and called upon the political leadership of the country to take the peace and reconciliation process to its logical end.
PDP patron while throwing light on the road map prepared by the party, said that the Self Rule encompassed practical proposals for the resolution of the political, economic, internal and external dimensions of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir that could constitute the fundamentals of a comprehensive resolution package in tune with the global and ground realities.
He said that solution of Kashmir problem was must for sustainable peace and economic growth of this region because resolution of this problem was key to the lasting peace and prosperity in the entire South Asia. PDP patron emphasized on expanding the scope of trans LoC trade and travel.
Making a reference towards resolution of SAARC to make South Asia as Trade Free Zone, he demanded, "On experiment basis let us start the process from this region".
Taking a dig at ruling party for its failure to give powers to the Panchayats, the former Chief Minister regretted that this regime was interested in making the Panchayati Raj institutions functional. "Four months have been passed after the elections but the government has not take any step to empower these Panchayats", he pointed out.
Sardar Rangil Singh,Trilok Singh Bajwa, Thakur Balbir Singh, Falail Singh, Hussain Ali Wafa Suram Singh and others also addressed the meeting which was organized by Som Nath, who had joined PDP recently. Som Nath is nephew of former Haryana Governor Babu Parmanand.
