Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 19: Hundreds kanals of land belonging to Kashmiri Pandits has been mutated during the recent settlement by the Revenue Department in Kashmir Valley which has led to lot of resentment among the original land owners.
According to sources mostly the land belonging to Kashmiri Pandits who have migrated from the Valley and their religious places has been mutated in last settlement by the officials of Revenue Department. Though the issue was taken with the authorities of the Department by many aggrieved land owners including the migrants but the Department has till date failed to set the same right, sources added.
Sources said the Kashmri migrants who left the Valley in 1990-91 in the wake of militancy and gun culture are the worst sufferers of the Department’s highhandedness as in various villages the revenue records of these hapless people were mutated by the officials.
In village Chowgam in Kulgam district of South Kashmir the title of over 100 kanals of land belonging to some Pandit families has been changed and records fudged by the officials of the Department and the land was shown on the name of some non migrant people.
The hapless families when tried to seek the control on their land this year were astonished to see that the same has been encroached by some unscrupulous elements who had managed to make construction on some area also. The hapless people took the matter to the DC Kulgam who had assured them justice but has failed to restore the land to its original owners.
Besides Chowgam there are reports of mutating the Revenue records in almost every part of the Valley. Even the title of land belonging to Hindu Shrines has also been changed in the records. In Ladhoo Pulwama the title of land belonging to shrine of Sofi saint Jeevan Sahib has been changed by mutating the revenue records and transferring the land to the name of other people who were not even the original inhabitants of the area and have settled there over some years back.
Not only the land records of the shrine but In the same village the land records of Pandits have been mutated during the last settlement creating a lot of confusion among the people.
Besides there are reports of mutating of land records in Mahend village of Tehsil Bijebehara Anantnag, Drusoo in district Pulwama, Hangalgund in District Anantnag, Handwara in district Kupwara, Lolab and Tikker also in the same district.
Concerned over the mutation of revenue records in Kashmir Valley during the recent settlement by the Revenue Department the Kashmiri migrants have sought the immediate intervention of Chief Minister in the matter and demanded the restoration of their land. This will be an acid test for Government which is claiming that rehabilitation of migrants in their homes and hearts was top on its agenda, said Ramesh Kumar a migrant from Kashmir. He demanded that the Revenue Minister should order a probe and punish the guilty.
