`Forgotten’ Sheikh Nazir urges leaders to reach people | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 19: No doubt National Conference (NC) Secretary General, Sheikh Nazir lives in hibernation but he has urged the NC leaders to stay in touch with the people. Nazir has been living in isolation since the past few decades. He is seen lying on his bed in his somewhat dingy room. A box beneath his bed, people close to him believe, contains vital documents on Kashmir history. Sheikh rarely gives interviews. His hibernation has cost him dearly. Despite being an important figure in the NC, he is almost forgotten by the people. Realizing that separatism still sells in Kashmir; the NC high command used Sheikh Nazir as a poster boy. He was seen launching NC membership drive from district two years ago. He also participated in some functions. Nazir nurtures separatist tendencies, some NC leaders believe. Therefore, the high command tried to use him effectively but last year’s summer agitation forced the elderly leader to stay indoors. Not only has Nazir stayed indoors but his `uncalled’ for silence has deprived students of Jammu Kashmir history of vital information. His statement depicts his concern for the sufferings of the people. He has called the leaders to reach to the needy. While this seems a distant dream, Nazir can do this state a favour by breaking his silence.
