Congress Legislative party tomorrow, allies to be invited
Jammu Congressmen to ‘register protest’ on Guru Resolution……..?

Early Times Report
Jammu Sept 19: At a time when the opposition parties are bracing themselves up for cornering the ruling NC-Congress alliance over a host of issues during the ensuing Assembly session, both the alliance partners find their threads and strings of cohesion apart , at least on the crucial and controversial Afzal guru resolution which is bound to put Congress in an inconvenient and awkward position in the House. On how to face this seemingly embarrassing situation when its major ally NC will vote in favor of the resolution, things would be discussed threadbare in the Legislative Party meeting which has been convened on Wednesday, September 21.
“ The party has convened the meeting on Wednesday evening in which scores of issues vital to governance and those having political significance would be discussed………it is not the Guru resolution alone that is on agenda or priority……”, said Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, J&K PCC Chief and senior leader of Congress. All the legislators would put forth their view point on these issues which would be registered for a final strategy party is going to adopt during the session, he added while speaking to ET. He also said as a matter of routine Congress is inviting other allies like PDF led by Hakim Mohammad Yasin , JKDPN led by Ghulam Hassan Mir and CPM member MY Tarigami. “ We will certainly invite them ………if they find it convenient and have time to attend , their participation and views are welcome……”, Soz observed. However, sources said these leaders might not attend the meeting of Congress Legislative party this time, since all the three belong to Kashmir and therefore have compulsions to echo in the same tune as other regional parties would react on this ‘emotive’ political issue.
Sources however said even as the party leadership is trying to put an easy face on the resolution issue, it is not so in reality as Jammu based Ministers and Legislators have already expressed their worries to the concerned quarters in the party that it would damage them politically if they do not raise voice or register protest , even though as a symbolic gesture , inside the House when the issue comes up for debate and finally put to vote. Sources said though the things are yet to take a formal shape in terms of the response, it is almost a foregone conclusion that some ministers and legislators from Jammu would get up and put their views across that party is against terrorism and any act that amounts to terror, as a matter of its policy, something which was indicated few days by the party General Secretary Digvijay Singh during his Jammu visit.
Ironically, however, while the Jammu based ministers and Legislators are expected to lodge symbolic protest, implying that it would go against what NC is bound to do, the Kashmir based Ministers, may not join their counterparts from Jammu for apparent reasons. In other words even the Congress from two regions would remain vertically divided over the resolution . Sources also said that some of the Congress men from Jammu have made up their mind not to allow BJP to rake up the issue in the House to its disadvantage and accordingly they would echo their voices against favouring the clemency for Guru , a convict in Parliament attack case. Though party high command has not given any instructions as yet as to how party should conduct itself in the House over the resolution, sources said once the strategy is fixed upon eliciting views from the legislators from different regions of the state, the High Command would first be apprised about these opinions and suggestions.
