Ex-servicemen hold meet at Udhampur

Udhampur, Sep 19:

In connection with the Ex-Servicemen week being observed throughout the country to highlight the sacrifices made by the soldiers for their country and also the problems being faced by them, J&K Ex-servicemen League (JKESL) held a meet in the premises of District Soldier Board.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajinder Singh was the Chief Guest while State President of JKESL Major General (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal presided over the function.

Rich tributes were paid to the martyrs of District Udhampur including General Zorawar Singh, Major Narayan Singh, Rajensh Sharma, Tilak Raj and Bansi Lal who had sacrificed their lives for the sake of motherland.

Speaking on the occasion, District President Dalvir Singh Bhutyal highlighted the numerous issues and problems being faced by the ex-servicemen and their families. He was apprised about the problems and demands being faced by the Ex-servicemen league, including government jobs for the family members of Ex-servicemen which included reservation in Government jobs at par with Himachal Pradesh, exemption of VAT on CSD items, land for Sainik Colonies and league office, revival of Sainik Vanaspati factory etc.

Capt. Arjun Singh, Capt Kour Singh and other active members of the League highlighted number of problems and urged administration to name local parks, hospital road and schools after the names of martyrs so that upcoming generation can be inspired and a spirit of patriotism can be infused among them.

They appealed to all ESM and Veer Naris to keep in touch with their respective league leaders so that their grievances can be brought to the notice of the district as well as State Body.

Speaking on the occasion Maj General Goverdhan Singh recalled the ever memorable sacrifice made by the sons of soil for the nation. He added that nation can never forget them and coming generation invariably will remember their sacrifice.
