| Let Molvi Umar return to moderation from extremism | | |
Chairman All Party Hurriyat Conference(APHC),Molvi Umar Farooq,has asserted that the so called"freedom struggle"in Jammu and Kashmir is neither controlled nor sponsored from any quarter.He has described the ongoing Jihad as a genuine peoples' movement for securing justice for the people of the state who have been subjected to torture,extortion,excesses.He has stated that the movement is against mass graves and against repression of the people.He,in his statement,has given an impression that all the political,religious and economic freedom of the people of the valley has been muzzled.The movement,according to the Maulana,is against "unethical and brutal policies" of the Government of India which are continuing with "impunity" in Jammu and Kashmir.This way the Maulana has given an impression as if the people in Kashmir have been reduced to the status of slaves by the Government of India.
The same Maulana should have not forgotten why his father,Molvi Farooq,joined hands with the then Janata Party in 1977 Assembly elections and fielded some candidates,though they contested on the Janata Party ticket.Molvi Umar should have remembered that his father used to field indirectly candidates for contesting Assembly elections in the constituencies in interior of Srinagar which indicated that his father had no grievance against the Government of India and he had no complaint about muzzling of religious freedom.If Molvi Umar's ancesters had any political problem it was the result of deep rooted ideological and political conflict with the National Confernce and not with the Government of India.Posssibly Umar has forgotten that it was his fathers' faith in the Indian democracy that he joned hands with Dr Farooq Abdullah around 1983 which was called the double Farooq accord.
And if the ongoing movement is neither controlled nor sponsored from any quarter why did not a movement like it take birth in Kashmir between 1947 nd 1989?It did not because people in the entire Kashmir valley enjoyed total political and religious freedom.Whay did the "freedm struggle" took roots in 1989 ?Reasons are not difficult to find.Insuregncy took place in Kashmir after groups of boys received arms training in camps across the LOC.And when these boys were aided by foreign mercenaries they spelt ruin on Kashmir and enacted the dance of death in which,by now,more than 50,000 people,including security personnel,were killed.It will be better for Umar to give a sermon on muzzling of various rights of people of Kashmir if he compares the level of religious and political freedom people enjoyed between 1948 and 1989 wth the level they have been enjoying since 1989.If he does so he will definitly repent his shift from Kashmiriyat,from a religion of moderation to extremism and fundamentalism.For once Molvi Umar need to remove the goggles from his eyes and see the realities and once he does so he will be the first to find out that the so called freedom struggle is controlled and sponsored by Pakistan.Prior to this so called struggle there was no complaint about unmarked mass graves,about repression,about brutal killings and so on.He needs to be quite impartial and hold the guntotting youths,especially the foreign mercenaries,responsible for brutal killings,rapes and abductions.If he does so he will serve people of Kashmir |
