JU to organise North Zone meet of CRSI | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, Sep 20: As a part of the ongoing celebrations of the International Year of Chemistry 2011, commemorating 100 years of awarding of the Nobel Prize to Madame Curie in 1911 in Chemistry, the Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu is organising the North Zone Meet of Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI) from September 22 to 24, at Jammu University jointly with Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine(IIIM), Jammu. This is in consonance with the UN resolution in the 63rd General Assembly in December 2008. The UNESCO and IUPAC are organizing yearlong events on this occasion. In this connection, the CRSI has planned four zonal meets at Pune, Siliguri, Jammu and Puducherry. In the North zone meet of CRSI in the University of Jammu, the academic programme includes many special lectures and invited talks by renowned scientists from India and other countries, a thematic mini symposium on CHEMINFORMATICS, Poster presentations and a special session on CHEMICAL EDUCATION which will be attended by school and college students from many institutions in Jammu. In this session, the CRSI will give Best Teacher Awards to teachers of the region teaching undergraduate classes. A Heritage tour of the Jammu city has also been planned for the benefit of some 397 participants who have already registered for the meet, including scientists from the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK. In connection with the IYC-2011, the Department of Chemistry organized a series of events starting with lectures by Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Director IIIM, Jammu, Prof V K Singh, Director IISER, Bhopal and Prof Goverdhan Mehta. A presentation competition for students will also be organized.
