Omar discusses fertilizer supply with Union Minister

SRINAGAR, Sep 20:-Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Srikant Kumar Tuesday morning called on Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah here and discussed matters relating to the supply and utilization of fertilizers in the State with him.
The Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, Union Secretary for Chemical and Fertilizers, Sutanu Behuria Jena, Principal Secretary Agriculture, M. I. Khandey, Union Joint Secretary, Satish Chandra and other Central and State officers were present in the meeting.
The fertilizer position, its availability and supply were reviewed in the meeting. Matters pertaining to the requirement of fertilizers by the State for the Rabi and Kharief cultivation also come up for discussion in the meeting.
The Union Minister assured that full quantity of the fertilizers would be provided to the State adding that 3 rakes of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) will be supplied to the State in advance. This fertilizer is imported from other countries to meet the domestic requirements of the country.
Detailing the State’s diverse and difficult topography, the Chief Minister underlined the need for establishing adequate storage facility of fertilizers in the State. He said sufficient chemical fertilizers should remain stocked in Jammu and Kashmir to cater to the needs of farmers especially in far-flung and cut-off areas. Omar Abdullah also sought special dispensation to the State with regard to the freight regime.
The Union Minister said that the freight policy is being reviewed and the State’s concern would be looked into positively.
The meeting also discussed establishment of National Sample Survey Organization units in the State to help collection of statistics and samples for research and data base building. This would help in providing befitting scientific advices to the farmers helping in the increase of agriculture produce.
