EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 20: In protest against the poor facilities at Jagti township, migrant Kashmiri Pandits today held a demonstration in front of Relief Commissioners office.
Alleging that government has failed to provide basic amenities to the Pandits, migrants said that township is facing shortage of drinking water, electricity and other basic amenities.
Addressing the gathering, president Jagti Tenement Committee (JTC) Shadi Lal Pandita said that power supply remains cut off for more than 15 hours leaving residents to face the hot and humid weather.
“Administration has befooled us and despite assurances that every facility is being provided to the people, on ground there is total neglect”, he said. Raising their demands, Pandita said that government should immediately improve the water and electricity supply in the area, as people are facing lot of problems.
“Government had made the commitment to remove other minor operational problems in the blocks, but nothing has been done in this regard”, he said.
Protesters also demanded better transport facility for the township so that people do not face problems in future. They also demanded construction of cremation ground in the area so that people can cremate their dead.
Tenants also demanded increase in the relief amount keeping in view the present price hike and one time compensation for the over aged migrant youth living in the city.
JTC has said that nearly 1600 families have been allotted the two room set flats in the township but most of them are facing acute problems.
