CM holds closed door meet with former PaK premier | Appointment of interlocutors’ futile exercise: Barrister | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Sept 20 (KNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and visiting former prime minister of Pakistan-administrated Kashmir Barrister Sultan Mehmood Monday evening held a closed-door meeting at the residence of prominent Kashmiri businessman, Zahoor Ahmad Watali’s uptown Sanat Nagar residence. During the 25-minute meeting, sources told KNS, both the leaders discussed a range of issues including cross L0C trade and Kashmir interlocutors report. “The meeting between the two leaders was so encouraging that Omar called Prof. Radha Kumar, one of the interlocutors to Watali’s residence where she held a detailed meeting with the visiting PPP leader after diner at 11 pm for almost one hour,” they told KNS. Though the details of the two meetings were not revealed the only word Radha could whisper while boarding her car was that she was happy to meet Barrister. “Some things have to be kept secret in the interest of peace process. It was a coincidence we met,” she told KNS. The visiting PaK leader told KNS that he had no agenda or instructions from his government for the meeting and it was purely a personal visit. However, while admitting that his private visit was turned into a historical political one, he said that certain issues were discussed and he is of the view that without taking Hurriyat Conference on board, ‘no settlement of Kashmir issue could be achieved.’ He said that there were several speculations making rounds regarding his engagement during his stay which needed to be clarified. “I’ve decided to call a press conference in Srinagar before I go back on Wednesday.” He is scheduled to call the press conference at 9.30 am at Hotel Grand Mumtaz. Though Barrister played down his meetings with Omar and Radha, political analysts say that these meeting could prove a milestone in the future Indo Pak ties. The visiting PaK leader said that Kashmir was not an internal problem and therefore the appointment of interlocutors was a ‘futile exercise.’ “Kashmir is not an internal issue,” he said. Asked why he met Radha, Barrister downplayed it saying, “It (meeting) was a casual one.” “We don’t consider interlocutors as a replacement of the dialogue process. The fact is that we have met on a marriage ceremony,” he said. On his meeting with Omar he said, “It was of a personal nature.” Meanwhile, Barrister met Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, JKLF chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik, senior separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, Hurriyat (M) leader, Shahid-ul-Islam, Kashmir Bar Association president Mian Abdul Qayoom and Bar general secretary G N Shaheen. The visiting PaK leader also called on Peoples Conference Chairman Sajjad Gani Lone at his uptown Sanat Nagar residence in the evening
