Sheikh pioneered democracy in J&K: Mangat
101st Birth Anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir celebrated

“ Sheikh Abdullah pioneered democracy during autocratic rule and worked for the just cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, said Minister for Health and Medical Education, Pt Mangat Ram Sharma after paying tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir on his 101st birth anniversary. In a message, Mangat said that Sheikh Abdullah took a bold and innovative land reforms measures making the tillers masters of their holdings. Several other functions were held across the state today to mark the 101st birth anniversary of the late leader.
The main function was held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, Jammu in which senior party leaders including Legislators, Ex-Legislators, Ex-Member Parliament, people from different walks of life, prominent citizens paid floral tributes to the great son of the soil on his 101st birth anniversary. The birthday celebrations started from early in the morning with Quran Khawani followed by fruit distribution between poor orphan and destitute. Omar Abdullah, NC President while paying tributes to the Sheikh recounted the contributions of the great leader especially during the turbulent period of partition and communal riots. He advised the rank and file of the party to fan in their respective areas, take programme and policies of the NC to every nook and corner.
Among others who paid tributes were Ajay Sadhotra, Provincial President Jammu NC, Rattan Lal Gupta, Surjit Singh Salathia, S. Harbans Singh, M Y Taing, Ghulam Mohammed Jan, Choudhary Mohammed Ramzan, Mohd Shafi Uri, Abdul Gani Malik, Chander Mohan Sharma, Mohd Aslam Goni, Bimla Luthra, Th Kashmira Singh, Pinky Bhat, Sham Mehra, Hilal Beg, Anuradha Goswami, Vikrant Sharma and many others. Former Power Minister and Senior Congress Leader, Mohd Sharief Niaz also paid glowing tributes to former Chief Minister and termed him as the tallest leader of Kashmir who kept the flame of secularism alive during partition days.
J&K Christian Dalit Association also organised a function at Mother Teresa Centre, Janipur to commemorate the birthday celebrations of the late leader. Paying tributes to Abdullah S Peter, Chairman of the association said the need of the hour is to follow the footsteps of the late leader in order to serve the people in a better way. Former Minister, Ram Paul was also present during the function. The NC activists led by Chander Mohan Sharma also took out a rally in the city to commemorate the birth anniversary of great leaders.
