Sheikh Nazir fails to get security for NC vice-president | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 20: While the state government has been generous enough to give security to people who unsuccessfully contested the municipal elections, the General Secretary of ruling National; Conference, Sheikh Nazir's request for a personal security officer (PSO) for senior vice-president of his party, Vinod Bhalla has been turned down. Sheikh had urged the Police Headquarters to provide security to Vinod. The request was turned down without assigning any reason. A stunned and shocked Nazir finds it very difficult to face his vice-president. Sheikh Nazir has served the National Conference for more than five decades and is considered second to Dr Farooq only. Notwithstanding his contribution and influence in the National Conference, a police officer of the rank of SP has the gut to turn down his request. Insiders assign the reason to Nazir's humility. "Unlike other National Conference leaders, he is not vocal. He is polite and sober", a NC worker said. Surprisingly unknown editors, businessmen and even lawyers enjoy official security. Travelling with PSOs almost became a fashion with the onset of militancy in Jammu Kashmir. Every Tom, Dick and Hary sought security and even got it. National Conference has played a vital role in Jammu Kashmir politics. Hundreds of NC activists were gunned down in early 90s and the difficult years that followed. A senior vice-president of such an organization needs, rather deserves security. |
