Both factions of BJP legislators convene meet on Sept 24 | Speaker's decision on 'leadership' issue on Sept 23 | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 20: Even as the two factions of BJP legislators have convened separate meetings on September 24 for the ensuing Assembly session , all eyes are on what Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone decides about the the legislators divided in two groups and the leader of the party in the House in the meeting convened on September 23. Notwithstanding the fact that BJP leadership has announced Jugal Kishore as leader of the party in the House, the Speaker has yet to give formal recognition to this decision. Ahead of Assembly session as the political exercises have begun in the state with all parties gearing up on their strategies in the House, the legislators of BJP who stand divided in two groups too have convened meetings , though both are waiting for decision of the Speaker as to how they would present and conduct themselves in the House. Sources within both the groups said it is in the light of the Speaker's decision on the leadership issue as well further course of strategy would be discussed by the legislators. Interesting to note is that even though High command has expelled veteran politician Prof Chaman Lal Gupta from the party , other six members who till date stand suspended on charges of having indulged in cross voting during Legislative Council polls in April, the latter continue to be on side of Prof Gupta , contending he is their leader in the House. Sources said even Prof Gupta considers expulsion move is immature and immaterial and he continues to be the MLA of the party that gave him mandate for contesting the polls . He is believed to have substantiated this point in the concerned quarters in the Assembly also in the wake of some SC judgements in such cases wherein parties cannot deny the politicians this right once they get elected on the mandate provided to them. The high command too has faltered badly again on the move which in the political circles is considered to be immature and loaded with flaws with respect to revoking suspension of two MLAs out of the 7 members . The move though seen as one in a bid to break and divide the group who stand in majority, has not gained ground for apparent reasons nor is the high command exhibiting enough courage and boldness to take the decision. For now, the move stands stumbled and therefore the 7 members continue to be one flock for now. Sources said it mainly hit the roadblock as leadership feels it might once again face the odd questions as to what parameters they chose to 'exonerate' only two MLAs and keep other five is suspenped category. Sources said on the basis of this feedback that if high command revokes suspension in piece meals or in a phased manner , it would draw a flak and this may not help strengthening or weakening either of the factions. The whispers and word is also making a round that there is a section in the central leadership which is favour of bringing back into party fold all the suspended MLAs including veteran Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, as it has been the precedence in BJP with veterans like Uma Bharti, Kalyan Singh , Jaswant Singh, who after having been suspended for some time, were welcomed back . It remains to be seen what shape things take in J&K. |
