EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 21: The State Government should table in the house report of Justice O.P. Sharma Commission, which was appointed as Commission to enquire into cause of death and forcible cremation of the dead body of Kuldeep Verma against the wishes of his family members and that too at night. The Commission was also asked by the state government to enquire into shifting of the dead body from the government Hospital twice and point out the responsibility.
O.P. Sharma Commission has submitted report to the government but inspite of passing of one month no step has been taken by the government. The report has pointed out responsibility of police officials of the rank of SSP and SP with observations that after inquiry it was found these officials responsible for attempting to cremate the dead body at Bishnah. The report has further pointed out administrative failure in dealing with the situation as a result of which there was widespread unprecedented resentment among the people of Jammu.
The public is serious and eagerly waiting the outcome of the inquiry report and want the same be made public in a transparent manner but the government appears to be non-serious. This was stated here by State Spokesperson Ramesh Arora (Adv.) while addressing a press conference at party hqrs.
The minimum requirement was publication of report to make working transparent. Unfortunately, till date nothing like that has happened and public is kept in dark about the submission of the report. Each and every recommendation should be made public as it is not a concern of a particular family but the incident of suicide which gained public importance especially when Kuldeep Verma breathed his last at Parade, the site of dharna in an agitation for restoring Shri Amarnath shrine Land to SASB for its use during the yatra period. A suicide note recovered from pocket of Kuldeep Verma by Dy SP Mohan Lal Kaith, at SMGS Hospital stating reasons for taking an extreme step of suicide. The postmortem has also revealed consumption of Potassium Cyanide. The report is submitted after ascertaining evidence produced by the police officials and public.
Detailed decision will be taken on report when copy is made available to Legislatures in the assembly and should also be made public. The government can not shrink from its responsibility of taking all steps required under law to get the recommendations implemented.
Shilpi Verma, widow of Late Kuldeep Verma, who is also State Secretary of BJP, was also present in the press conference.
Pertinent to mention here that Ramesh Arora had been pleading the case on behalf of Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Smiti (sayss) and family of Late Kuldeep Verma.
