Manhas chairs meeting at Kishtwar
9/21/2011 9:41:11 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Sept 21: On the second day of his visit to the hilly areas of erstwhile Doda district, BJP State president Shamsher Singh Manhas chaired a high level meeting of the Kishtwar district unit of the party at Kishtwar, which was attended by senior leaders, district office bearers and district heads of different morchas.
Manhas, who took stock of the present political scenario in the district and the programmes being undertaken by the party during the last two months at various levels and also discussed the future course of action for giving more momentum to the scheduled programmes.District President Captain Hukam Chand and other local leaders presented a detailed report of the problems being faced by the people and the attitude of the administration towards their grievances.
Speaking on the occasion, Manhas said what has been brought into his notice is really shocking. The transport system in the Kishtwar district has totally collapsed. Road connectivity is not upto the mark. People are facing lot of problems in absence of adequate number of vehicle for travel. Although the government had assured of the best services for pasengers but the SRTC buses deployed for plying on some of the roads were withdrawn in less than a week’a time.
Expressing party’s concern over the prevailing unemployment in the hilly areas, Manhas said that the government should issue clear instructions to the authorities setting up power projects to prefer the local youth in engaging as staff instead of bringing the same from outside. He said that the state is already passing through the problem of unemployment and the number is going up with each passing year.
The BJP Chief alleged that there was no development in the area. If some works are being undertaken, the local MLA influences and departmental works are taken in hand rather than inviting tenders, which is indeed a matter of concern and example of the working of the administration under the pick and choose policy.
Appreciating the efforts being put by the party activists, Manhas said that people are looking towards BJP with high hopes and the need of the hour is to expose the NC-Congress coalition, which have totally proved to be working on communal lines and least botherted for the development and welfare of the common people.
BJP senior leaders including Som Raj Khajuria, Sunil Sharma, Dr. Nirmal Kamal, Capt. Hukam Chand, Shakti Parihar and Basant Raj also addressed the meeting.
