SKUAST-J organizes field days on Mash, Maize and Paddy

JAMMU, September 21: Marching one step ahead in disseminating latest technologies at the doorstep of farmers while acting on the principles of ‘learning by doing’ and ‘learning by seeing’, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Rajouri under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu and under the auspices of Directorate of Extension Education, SKUAST-J organized field days on Mash, Maize and Rice at Lamberi, Loorekote and Nagrota villages of district Rajouri.
In these villages Front Line Demonstrations (FLDs) on respective crops were laid out aimed at introduction of newly released promising varieties of mash, maize and rice along with dissemination of scientific package of practices for cultivation of these crops. Large number of farmers participated in these programmes and interacted with the scientists of KVK, Rajouri regarding the high yielding varieties of these crops suitable for their areas.
Farmers also apprised the scientists about some of the constraints encountered by them during the course of cultivation of these crops.
Addressing to a large gathering of the farmers, Dr S B Singh, Programme Coordinator, KVK, Rajouri told that these field days have their own significance as these extension activities provide farmers an opportunity to learn many things by observing the results of varieties of different crops grown under FLD programme.
While speaking, Dr. A P Singh, SMS, Agronomy and Incharge FLD programme informed the farmers about the high yielding varieties of Mash, Maize and Rice suitable for their areas and impressed upon the farmers to adopt full scientific package of practices for realizing high returns. Answering to a query regarding non availability of fertilizers and seeds at the time of sowing, Dr. Rakesh Sharma, SMS, Agricultural Extension advised the farmers to adopt collective approach for the timely procurement of critical production inputs.
These programmes were also attended by the officials of Agriculture department, Sarpanch, Panches, farmers’ beneficiaries and other progressive farmers of the areas and appreciated in satisfaction the efforts of scientists of KVK, Rajouri in leaving no stone unturned in making the farmers aware of the latest technologies and for their promptness in addressing the field problems.
Among those who were present Dr. Punit Chudhary, Dr. Manoj Kumar, Er. A.K. Sinha and Amit Mahajan.
