TDC Majalta demands Degree College for Majalta | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, September 21: Another twist to peaceful struggle for a Degree College at Majalta came with the meeting of Tehsil Development Committee. The meeting was led by its President, R. S. Pathania, with MOS for Higher Education, and in-charge Summer Secretariat, Dr. Manohar Lal Sharma. A detailed memorandum was delivered to the minister by the all-party conglomerate. The committee expressed serious resentment with the decision of the government sanctioning twenty-two Colleges at lesser deserving locations and leaving Majalta which is the most-deserving case throughout the entire state. Right on the 100 km stretch from Udhampur to Deoli (Billawar), there is no Degree College for the pass-outs of Higher Secondary level. A proposed Degree College at Majalta shall benefit pass-outs of as many as dozen-odd Higher Secondary Schools of Majalta as well as bordering areas of four adjoining Tehsils - Jammu, Samba, Billawar and Ramnagar tehsils. Whereas the minister gave a patient hearing to the visiting delegation and assured that their demand shall be projected upto the concerned quarters and redressed favourably for setting up of a Degree College. He expressed coincidence with the opinion of TDC Majalta to the extent that Majalta is a very deserving case and a Degree College requires to be set up there. Prominent among other who were present in the delegation included Dr. K C Dubey, noted retd. I.B.S. officer and former Director Doordarshan and Radio Kashmir Jammu, (Central Advisor), S S Sumbria President DAHWA, (Vice Chairman), Sheetal Sharma, Mulkh Raj sarpanch, Kulbir Singh (subedar major (retd.) and others.
