| GDC Kathua, Commerce College in QFs of Chess | | |  EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Sept 21: Government Degree College Kathua and Government SPMR College of Commerce today sailed into the third round of quarterfinals in men’s section in the ongoing annual inter-college chess tournament at GGM Science College, here today under the banner of Department of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
Whereas other two scheduled matches ended in walkover after the opponent failed to report the venue. Teams getting the walkovers were Government Degree College Paloura and Government MAM College.
Earlier, in the first match, GDC Kathua defeated GDC Kishtwar 3-1. The Results: Nageshwar Jasrotia bt Vishal Kumar; Vivek Sharma bt Sukesh Sharma; Nitin Kad bt Imran Hussain; Aman Andotra lost to Gori Lal.
In another match, Government SPMR College of Commerce blanked GDC Ramnagar 4-0. The Results: Simranpal Singh bt Rakesh Kumar; Rohit Bhardwaj bt Vipul Kirti; Gurmeet Singh bt Sumit Kumar; Taranjeet Singh bt Vinod Kumar.
Meanwhile, in women’s section, all the three scheduled matches ended in walkover. Teams awarded walkovers by the organisers were Government Women College Udhamapur; Government Women College Kathua and Government College for Women (GCW), Parade. Today’s matches were officiated by Sushil Sawhney and SP Sharma.
Change in fixture
In the meantime, the organisers have shifted tomorrow’s scheduled matches for a next date i.e. September 23 at the same venue due to request from the participating colleges in view of the transporters’ strike.
Accordingly, the competition has been extended by a day with Sunday (September 25) being rest day. However, the participants can still approach the organisers for further queries on Mobile No. 94191-29875.
