Vertical divide among employees, EJAC, JCC at loggerheads | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 21: The vertical split in two factions of state government employees came to fore today with a group of Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) staging a demonstration in front of Raj Bhawan here today and torching the copies of the agreement reached between the authorities and Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) at Srinagar recently. While the EJAC leaders termed the agreement a sell out and fraud with the working class, the JCC leaders not only hailed it but termed a historical victory for the first time in last 25 years for the employees of the state. ``This is a victory for the working class and we have achieved it for the first time in last 25 years when Government has agreed to settle almost all demands of the employees'', said EJAC senior leader Parshotam Sharma. He criticised those employees leaders who are opposing the agreement saying these leaders were working on the behest of some political parties in the state while JCC is the real representative of the working class. Parshotam while terming the agreement a victory said that the Government was bound to settle all the demands on which it has signed an agreement with the JCC leadership recently. He warned in case there was any backtracking the JCC will renew its strike call and working class will come to streets. This was substantiated by another JCC leader Babu Hussian Malik. He said the working class was satisfied with the agreement and that is the reason that a senior leader of EJAC, Mohammed Gafoor Dar switched his loyalty to JCC after signing the agreement with Government. However criticizing the JCC leadership EJAC spokesman Suresh Sharma said that its leadership has betrayed the employees by signing the agreement with Government. This agreement is noting but an eye wash as we know that majority of employees including daily wagers, adhoc employees, pubic sector workers are not going to benefit by it, he added. He said to oppose the agreement JCC has given a call of a symbolic dharna in front of Raj Bhawan today to register its protest against the Government and the so-called agreement which does not fulfil the aspirations of the employees. Sharma said that employees in protest torched the effigy of agreement and today's dharna was a symbolic protest. He also said that in view of the confusion created by JCC after signing the agreement with the Government EJAC has postponed its week long strike from September 24. However the EJAC will soon announce its future course of action, he added, Same were the views of Parshotam Sharma, Prem Singh Bawa and other EJAC leaders who expressed their dismay over the agreement. |
