Beig explains Self Rule

Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 21: Former Chief Minister and Peoples |Democratic Party (PDP) patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayed today said while the subcontinent got freedom in 1947 we unfortunately landed in a physical and psychological prison. He was addressing a largely attended youth conference organised by the party here today. Senior leader, Muzaffar Husain Beg explained various features of Self Rule.
Mufti said : "All our traditional routes were blocked severely restricting the opportunities of trade and economical development and growth, this siege was broken though only symbolically yet in 2005 with the opening of Muzaffar Abad road and later Rawalakote link."
He said opening of Jammu & Kashmir to rest of the world is the central piece of self rule vision document. Self rule, he said is acceptable to all the stake holders including India, Pakistan and different regions of the diverse state of Jammu Kashmir.
Describing National Conference (NC) as a spent force, Mufti said: "My target is not NC neither do we have issues with that party which is now too weak to be a hurdle in anything that the people of the state want to achieve. "I am addressing the government and the people of India and if the people of the state give me their support I am sure nobody can deny us our rights."
Mufti said `tactical rigging' was resorted to during the 2008 Assembly elections especially in Srinagar. He, however, did not name anybody. "Some amount of fairness has been achieved in the electoral process", he said.
He urged the people of Jammu Kashmir to assert their democratic rights for ensuring their dignity and honor. "Unless that is done in a full measure we will continue to suffer losses and grope in the dark for a resolution."
Mufti said stifling of democracy in the state since 1947 had been one major reason for the physical, psychological and political siege of Jammu Kashmir. He said it was unfortunate that NC leadership had not tolerated opposition ever, but now things have changed and people are appreciating the power of vote. "It is this power that can choose the destiny of the state and PDP is determinant to use people's power to convince the government and people of India that status quo is no option" , he said and asserted that it would happen sooner than later.
Mufti urged the prime Minister to ensure a sustained dialogue with Pakistan even though that country is beset with acute internal problems. We must respect the democratic set up whatever its weaknesses, as democracy is better than military dictatorship. He said it was necessary for peace in South Asia that Jammu & Kashmir issue is resolved amicably between India and Pakistan.
Earlier the senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh out lined various features of the Self Rule and said J&K could be one of the richest states if only its water and power resources are allowed to be harnessed by us. He said the funds that we can generate in one year would be more than what the Government of India gives over twelve years as plan assistance. Nobody in Jammu & Kashmir would be without a job and development could reach much higher levels if the water resources had not been battered away by successive NC regimes in order to stay in power. "But we are determinant to get back the control on our power houses".
Chief Spokesman Naeem Akhter, Mohd Khalil Bandh MLA, Abdul Hameed Kosheen, Gh Mohiudin Mir , Bashir Ahmed Mir, Mohd Aslam laigroo, Youth Vice president Rajinder Manhas, General Secretaries, Showkat Gayoor, Nazir Yatoo, Nadeem Khan, Showkat Deng, State Secretaries, Ahsan Mirza, Imran Amin Shah, Asif Khan, Imtiyaz Rather, Aga Yousuf , Deepu Chib, Anjum Mirza, Shamim Ganai, Tanveer Dar, Sonu Singh, Mukhtar Ah Bandh, Showkat Hafiz and District Youth President Srinagar Jahangir Wani were also present on this occasion.
