CRSI meet gets underway at Jammu University | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Sep 22:-The 3-day zonal meet of Chemical Research Society of India being organized by the Department of Chemistry, University of Jammu in collaboration with IIIM Jammu commenced here today. The conference was formally inaugurated by Prof. Varun sahni, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu, in presence of Prof. S. Chandrasekaran, President CRSI, Dr. N. Jayaraman, Secretary, CRSI, Prof. Rajive Gupta, Dean Research and Dean Sciences, University of Jammu, Dr. S.C. Taneja from IIIM, Prof. Meena Sharma, HOD Chemistry & Convener of the meet and Dr. Kamal K Kapoor. Prof. Meena Sharma in her inaugural address thanked the CRSI for reposing faith in the Chemistry Department, University of Jammu and IIIM Jammu for hosting the international meet. She said that CRSI meet shall give a platform to the chemists of the region to showcase their research. Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Rajive Gupta briefly outlines the various initiatives undertaken by University of Jammu under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Varun Sahni, “MOU” with IIIM being one of them. Prof S. Chandrasekaran, President, CRSI, in his speech remembered the contribution of eminent chemists and noble laureates, Marie-Curie and P.C. Ray. He said that interactions like the CRSI meet shall inspire the young scientists to achieve excellence. Prof. Varun Sahni in his presidential address said that roots of chemistry can be tracked to ancient and medieval history and even in modern times. Chemistry plays a major role in our day-to-day lives, especially pharmacy. He underlined the need to strengthen the teaching of chemistry at under-graduate level. He hoped that the senior scientists taking part in the meet shall inspire the young scientists. Many delegates from outside the state, Heads of various teaching Departments, Deans, Registrar University of Jammu Prof. Naresh Padha, Director DIQA Prof. Kuldeep Sharma, Director DDE Dr Meenakshi Kilam and Officers of the University of Jammu had graced the occasion.
