Protocol violation for visiting PoK leader: Jitendra Singh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Sept 22: BJP J&K chief spokesperson & national executive member Jitendra Singh has sought explanation from the state government as to under what protocol and rules the former Prime Minister of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) Sultan Mehmood Choudhary was permitted to indulge in political activism, hold a politically oriented press conference in Srinagar and travel to Pahalgam in state helicopter even though the latter was on a purely private visit to attend a wedding ceremony at the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir. Throwing all the norms to wind, the National Conference-Congress coalition government not only extended state hospitality to Sultan Mehmood Choudhary even though he was not a state guest but also facilitated a press conference by him, wherein he betrayed the audacity to warn the government of India against executing or hanging the Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru, alleged Jitendra Singh. Jitendra Singh said, this also calls for an answer from the Congress-led UPA government because Sultan Mehmood Choudhary had violated time honoured tradition of foreign relations by using a private visit for political purpose and at the same time interfering in the internal affairs of India by issuing statements saying that the Govt. of Pakistan and PoK do not recognize the duly elected government or the existing election process in Jammu & Kashmir. Jitendra Singh said it is for the Union Home Ministry and External Affairs Ministry to take up the issue with Islamabad and ask under what diplomatic prerogative Choudhary was advising New Delhi to address what he described as the aspirations of the people of state and in addition linked Afghan peace with Kashmir solution on Pakistan terms. Singh wanted to know whether an Indian leader visiting PoK could also expect a similar liberty from the government there to advise them on their sensitive internal matters quite out of line with the official policy of that country. Reiterating the BJP stand, Jitendra Singh reminded that even as per the 1994 unanimously passed All Party Reslution of Indian Parliament, the only unresolved issue relating to Kashmir is to get back the territory of Jammu & Kashmir under illegal occupation of Pakistan and the visiting former PM of PoK should have been asked to suggest means of achieving that purpose. The manner in which the state government machinery was put into motion during Mehmood Choudhary’s stay in Srinagar has raised a number of questions, said Singh. The unbridled patronage extended to the Omar Abdullah government from 10- Janpath has emboldened the state rulers to such an extent that they are falling head over heals to appease the separatists and extend state hospitality to foreign visitors sympathetic to separatists, he alleged. In the normal course, a government daring such constitutional adventurism would have been immediately brought to book but here the irony is that even the Congress ministers in the coalition government are maintaining silence because they are under orders from their central high command to toe the line of NC leadership.
