An outreach programme oragnised by RBI at Anantnag

JAMMU, September 22 : As part of its financial inclusion and awareness
drive the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Jammu office organized an
outreach programme at village Tailwani, District Anantnag.

The programme was presided over by K K Saraf, Regional Director,
Reserve Bank of India, Jammu.

Welcoming the District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Jenab
Kifayat Hussain Rizvi, M Rajeshwar Rao, Banking Ombudsman, New Delhi
and Jammu and Kashmir and other dignitaries to the programme, he
stated that during the last 75 years Reserve Bank of India has played
an important role in strengthening the economy of the country.

He further, mentioned that during the Platinum Jubilee Year (2009-10)
of establishment of RBI, it was decided to reach out to the remotest
villages of the country for extending banking services thereto so that
the common man is linked to the banks without actually visiting a bank
branch through Information and Communication Technology (ICT)
initiatives.
Speaking on the occasion, Saraf stated that RBI’s outreach programmes
which started during its Platinum Jubilee Year was being continued
with a view to deepening the penetration of financial inclusion and
expanding the coverage of financial services to all sections and all
regions of the country in a meaningful way, particularly to the
economically backward and weaker sections of the society, and thus
achieving the objective of inclusive growth..

On the occasion Saraf and other dignitaries distributed smart cards
issued by J & K Bank Ltd. and witnessed the activation / transactions
through smart cards not only for the common villagers but also for
MNREGA beneficiaries.
The programme was also attended by Executive President, J&K Bank Ltd.,
SLBC Convenor, Chairman, Ellaquai Dehati Bank and other senior
government officials, bankers, teachers and students. A large number
of villagers including women, senior citizens, MNREGA beneficiaries
and farmers also attended the programme. A short cultural programme
was presented by the school children before the dignitaries.
