Afzal Guru resolution NC agrees to play `good boy' | | | Early Times Report jammu, Sept 22: The ruling coalition partners are likely to find a way out to deal with the Afzal Guru's clemency resolution which is scheduled to be discussed on the floor of the house on September 28. The coalition partners, according to insiders, have agreed to avoid any embarrassing situation that may arise while discussing the resolution. Earlier the Chief Minister had urged the National Conference legislators to vote in favour of the resolution. The National Conference has agreed to behave like a `good boy' following Congress high command's directive to `find a way out to defeat the resolution'. The NC most likely will create a situation where discussion on the resolution becomes inevitable. A Congress leader while talking to a news agency said the party MLAs from Jammu have decided to oppose the resolution. "In order to save the ruling coalition, we may create a situation where tabling the resolution becomes difficult", he said. The resolution moved by Independent MLA from Langat, Er Abdul Rashid seeks House support for clemency to Afzal Guru who has been awarded death sentence by the apex court for his involvement in the terrorist strike on the Parliament building in 2001. The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has decided to vote in favour of the resolution. There are reports that the Congress MLAs from valley may also support the move. |
