| Are RSS & BJP under the Americans' baneful influence? | | Securing Nationalists | | Early Times Report
jammu, Sept 22: The past few days have witnessed several developments clearly suggesting that the American influence is at work to defeat the Indian objective in Jammu and Kashmir, as also to prepare ground for a truce over the state over the heads of the non-Muslims, including the Dogras of Jammu province, Buddhists of Ladakh region, internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus and refugees from West Pakistan and POJK, all non-Muslims and all victims of a regressive and communal ideology and all committed nationalists. The Americans' frequent visits to New Delhi, their unstinted support to Pakistan's spurious claim over Jammu and Kashmir and their pressure on the Congress and the UPA aimed at making them to yield so that Pakistan accomplishes what it could not in Kashmir and help the Americans to accomplish their task in Afghanistan have all indicated the direction the men at the helm are heading towards.
There is general consensus among the concerned Indians that the American foreign policy towards India is not only based on the geo-political interests of the United States but it is also so designed that it directly and indirectly helps Pakistan in the region, including Afghanistan, and enables the fundamentalist forces to consolidate their hold over and subsequently de-link Jammu and Kashmir from India. The worst aspect of the whole situation is that the Congress and the UPA have not done anything to controvert the pernicious influence of the US. Instead, the Congress and the UPA have always acted otherwise. There is a view that the Congress and the UPA willingly and cheerfully dance to the Americans' tunes. There is also a view that both the Congress and the UPA are "facilitating" the task of subversives. The interlocutors' views on Jammu and Kashmir have given rise to a situation that has further given credence to the second view.
However, what is causing greater worry is the indifferent attitude of RSS and its political organ BJP towards what has been happening particularly since March 1999, when the senior BJP leader and the then Foreign Minister met with his Pakistani counterpart in Colombo and agreed to accept a formula that would grant maximum possible autonomy to Kashmir and its adjoining Muslim-majority areas, render the borders irrelevant and so on. Ever since then, the BJP has been behaving in a fashion that has made the people understand that it and the RSS, like the Congress and the UPA, are toeing the American line on Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan.
Fortunately, however, the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is in Jammu these days. It is an opportunity for him to explain what his organization and his political outfit think about the people of the state in general and the non-Muslims in particular. This is a must for the non-Muslims in the state as they are of the firm view that the "RSS and the BJP have abandoned them under the American influence" and "there is no difference whatever between them and the Congress and the UPA". It is the general belief that the non-Muslims, plus the nationalist Muslims, are the backbone of the country and the country has suffered because the national leadership has never thought it proper to secure them and enable them to fight out undesirable elements. |
